Tour Diary 5/6 | Wednesday Feb 21
Nice breakfast at the hotel, ordered 3 Sam Amidon albums from Amazon, then (again) some bag-carrying business and off to the harbor.
When I booked the ferry tickets, I had the good sense to also book a seat in the lounge area. I’ll recommend it to any sane person traveling the sea between Tallinn and Helsinki. All the coffee I can drink, Wi-Fi, some Karelian pasties, fancy cheeses, Wi-Fi, chocolate, big chairs, power outlets and a working Wi-Fi. Oh, and did I mention they have Wi-Fi on the boat?
Arrived at Helsinki and drove to Salo. This was only a 110 km drive so there was no hurry.
Enjoyed some really coffee-tasting coffee at a gas station on the way.
It was much colder in Finland, around -18°C and I arrived early at Bar Bizarre. It’s a fairly new place in Salo and it was a really positive surprise. I’ve heard many good things about it, but when I got there it was even better.
During the evening when I looked around, The Bizarre (note: The Bar Bizarre is only part of the Bizarre family) started to resemble the boat Belafonte form the movie The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (see the clip below)*. In an old renovated building that at one point was a clothing store, is now a beautiful cafe/bar/art rental shop/boutique/yoga studio and much more. Layers and layers of greatness.
So a second diamond was found on this journey! ?
Friends, relatives and music lovers braved the freezing weather and came to the warm atmosphere of Bar Bizarre. A perfect ending to the 6 day tour.
The local newspaper wrote an article about my tour and titled it as my “homecoming” – It really felt this way. Hope to play here again soon!
